Simmons & Simmons is an international law firm with a 125-year history in delivering smarter, more efficient ways to tackle its clients’ most complex challenges, focusing on four main sectors: Financial Institutions, Healthcare/Life Sciences, Technology/Media/Telecommunications, and Asset Management/Investment Funds.

The Problem

Simmons & Simmons’ celebrated history and ongoing success can be attributed to its collaborative, agile, and partner-led approach – but it struggled to find a risk management solution with a similar philosophy.

Like many law firms, Simmons & Simmons has taken huge strides to increase its risk maturity in recent years.

But it still needed to simplify its risk management workflows, optimise the controls prioritisation and funding process, and was struggling with the lack of middle-ground options between spreadsheets and expensive, sprawling GRC systems

The Solution

Luckily, Head of Enterprise Risk Management Sue Diver’s search for GRC “nirvana” brought her to talk to the team at RiskSmart. Her team started piloting the use of the platform at the start of 2023.

The Results

RiskSmart helped simplify Simmons & Simmons’ GRC processes with a platform offering balanced functionality

Sue Diver, Head of Enterprise Risk Management at Simmons & Simmons says: “Spreadsheets are adequate for recording risks, but they’re not adequate for managing risks. And most systems, being big and expensive, have more functionality than you’ll ever use. But the thing that struck me about RiskSmart is that it’s very much a pragmatic solution. Once you’ve done the first essential thinking about how you want the platform structured, it’s so easy to get the risks in and assigned to the relevant owners."
